Combat Traction Alopecia with New Pulleez Ponytail Holders
Traction alopecia is a growing concern among women who constantly wear tight ponytails, braids and hair extensions. This type of hair loss is caused by the constant stress on the hair follicle induced by these hair styling methods. Traction alopecia can be prevented to an extent by using the right hair accessories suitable for each hair style type.
Pulleez International has come up with a ponytail holder that allows women to wear ponytails without damaging their hair. The “Pulleez” were launched at Spring Fashion Week 2012. Pulleez ponytail holder saves hair in the beginning stages of traction alopecia.
“Much of the success we’ve had with Pulleez since we’ve launched has been with models and celebrities who want to pull back their hair without damaging it,” said Pulleez creator Diana Wright. “As a result of their professions there is great pressure to have long, beautiful hair.”
Pulleez ponytail holders provide a sliding mechanism that puts very little tension on the hair. The patented design allows women to easily secure a low pony or loose braid. The ponytail holder consists of an elastic loop that secures hair with the help of two pulley-like structures. Users have to simply insert the hair in the loop and squeeze the pulley to tighten the hair.
Unlike conventional elastic pony loops, the patented design of the Pulleez completely eliminates the need to wrap the elastic multiple times around the hair. There is no hair snagging. To open the loop simply squeeze the Pulleez and slide it out.
“I explain to new clients that severe ponytails and braids can weaken hair and that it's important to have the right accessories to keep the hair follicle in tact,” says Jade Schork, a freelance photo shoot stylist and senior stylist at Jon Lori Salon in Fair Haven, NJ. “Pulleez allows women with severely damaged hair to wear their hair in a ponytail, without snagging or pulling.”
Traction alopecia can be prevented by switching to looser hair styles and adopting proper hair care remedies at the very first sight of traction alopecia. Celebrities like Britney Spears, Naomi Campbell, Victoria Beckham and Paris Hilton have all been victims of traction alopecia. The latest to join this league is Kim Kardashian whose hairline is receding, reportedly due to hair extensions and tight ponytails.
Another category of patients affected by traction alopecia are African-American women. Thanks to the unique nature of their hair, African American women who braid, weave or corn-roll their hair suffer from hair thinning than women in the rest of the world.
To help African-American women combat traction alopecia, Trisha Brown, director and co-owner of Salon 10 Healthy Hair Salon in Raleigh, recently introduced the new Salon 10 Hair Treatment Bar with essential oils. The new hair treatment bar offers hair loss treatments for traction alopecia.
