Schmidt & Clark Launches Website to Offer Legal Help on Propecia

Propecia is a well-known prescription medication used in treating androgenic alopecia. While the efficacy of finasteride in treating hair loss in men is established worldwide, the drug is known to have a number of potentially-irreversible side effects including impotence, erectile dysfunction (ED), gynecomastia, male breast cancer, and even prostate cancer.

Recently US food and drug administration (FDA) also confirmed the side effects of Propecia and has issued label changes to Finasteride drugs. Manufactured by Merck & Co., Propecia was approved by FDA in 1997 to treat male pattern baldness.

FDA came to this conclusion after reviewing 421 reports of sexual dysfunction from 1998 to 2011 reported to Propecia. The agency has found that 59 people reported sexual problems after using Propecia while 131 cases of erectile dysfunction and 68 cases of decreased libido with Proscar from 1992 to 2010.

Following these revelations against Propecia, patients affected by this drug have been filing lawsuits against the firm.

Michael E. Schmidt, managing partner of Schmidt & Clark, LLP, a nationally recognized products liability law firm, has noticed and alarming number of inquiries to the firm related to Propecia. To help patients get the right information and help them legal protection from Propecia manufactures, Schmidt & Clark has recently launched a new website. Mr. Schmidt stated, "Our firm has substantial expertise in the area of product liability litigation. As a result, we have received a number of inquiries from Propecia users."

To further corroborate the side effects of Propecia, the Center for Andrology and Division of Endocrinology at George Washington University recently conducted a study to look at the long-term sexual complications experienced by former Propecia users.

The research involved 71 healthy men between the ages of 21-46 who suffered from sexual side effects lasting at least three months, despite discontinuing treatment with Propecia. More than 90 percent of them reported experiencing low libido, erectile dysfunction and decreased sexual arousal. Nearly a quarter of those interviewed reported complications lasting for more than six years. "This is the first trial to show the medication can cause persistent sexual side effects," said Michael Irwig, co-author of the study. "And the risk needs to be known when men are contemplating taking the

medication and doctors are prescribing the medication." The Products Liability Litigation Group at Schmidt & Clark focuses exclusively on the representation of plaintiffs in a Propecia lawsuit. The firm is pursing individual litigation nationwide and currently accepting new Propecia cases in all 50 states. Schmidt & Clark website gives detailed information, news and more regarding this drug and the litigation surrounding it.
