Aromatherapy for Hair Rejuvenation

Essential oils help stimulate the blood circulation in the scalp and improve hair health thus preventing hair loss. Jojoba oil, cedar wood oil, lavender oil, chamomile and grapefruit oil are some essential oils which can be used to prevent hair loss and rejuvenate hair.

Aromatherapy a healing system which uses natural ingredients or essential oils helps restore both physical and emotional health in a patient. The oils are obtained by distillation methods of extraction from the flowers, leaves, stems, seeds, roots, fruit peels, bark, needles, twigs and cones of a plant or from herbs.

The natural components in them gives them the therapeutic properties. These oils are laden with anti-bacterial, antifungal, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties.

A few drops of the essential oils added to vegetable oil is massaged into the scalp to arrest hair fall. After applying on the scalp the hair is wrapped around with a warm towel. When washed after 2-3 hours using a mild shampoo the treated hair gets refreshed and nourished.

To
improve hair health few drops of bay and lavender oil is mixed with warm almond or sesame oil and massaged on scalp. After 20-30 minutes the hair is washed with shampoo mixed with bay oil to fortify the hair.

To help hair grow, a mixture of 2-3 drops of thyme oil, cedar wood oil, lavender oil and rosemary oil is made. To this is added a mixture of a teaspoon of jojoba oil and 4 teaspoons of grape seed oil. A good massage with this mixture every night will do wonders for the hair. Care should be taken when using rosemary oil if the person has high blood pressure. Lemon and grapefruit oil may cause slight skin irritation.

Alopecia areata can be treated by using essential oils which have hair-growth promoting properties. The essential oils enter the body through the scalp skin as the molecules are small and have less molecular weight. The fat cells in the subcutaneous layer of the skin absorbs the oil molecules.

This boosts blood circulation, transport of oxygen and nutrients to the tissues lining the scalp and rids the cells of carbon dioxide and other waste materials. This exchange rejuvenates the hair follicles thus nourishing and strengthening them and making them healthy preventing hair loss.

The scalp should be clean to promote hair growth. A good oil massage cleans the scalp of sebum which may otherwise clog the hair follicles. During massage old dead cells and dirt are also effectively removed.

A good aromatherapy oil massage is also important for emotional rejuvenation of a person which has direct bearing on his or her physical health. When a person is tensed the scalp goes tight and dry. Oil massage restores good blood flow as the scalp depends on blood for its oxygen supply.

Scalp massage even activates neural pathways to the brain, relaxes blood vessels in the head and neck besides eliminating mental fatigue giving a feeling of contentment. Also essential oils can be absorbed directly by keratin which makes up the hair. The oils can actually penetrate the cuticle layer and cortex layer of the hair in order to bind it and repair it.

A concoction of good quality essential oils is all we need to keep our hair healthy, nourished and rejuvenated.
