Avoid Stress to Prevent Hair loss
People get stressed when they lose hair. But do they realize that it
was stress in the first place which led to the acute hair loss.
Stress
occurs at every age, irrespective of gender, nationality, race, religion
or profession. From not wanting to share a toy at childhood to trying
to get a promotion as an adult, stress serves as a driving factor which
affects our behavior, habits, lifestyle and life.
Just like all other diseases and health conditions the chief antidote to hair fall is relaxation, change in food habits, change in behavior, relaxed routine and a ‘be happy with what you have got attitude’. In short NO STRESS.
How to explain stress biologically?
The
adrenal glands sitting on top of the kidneys secrete the hormone
Cortisol when we face a threat or when in an emergency situation. This
gives the extra energy required to deal with the threat. Energy comes
from the fats and proteins and the hormone is meant for emergency
dealing only. But if we tend to be always in a ‘high alert’ condition,
then Cortisol is always present in the blood and this leads to hair
fall.
Cortisol presence leads to an increase in Adrenalin, testosterone
and dihydrotestosterone (DHT). The combined presence of these hormones
results in reduction in collagen and insulin besides also a fall in bone
density and hair loss. Instead of being more active, men and women tend
to become tired fast, go into depression and more stressed.
Men are affected by DHT more than women. DHT attacks the hair follicles which become weaker, and finally die out. Stress here is the direct reason. It makes us wonder if this is the reason behind baldness associated with scientists and people who think a lot. Stress in finding a solution for everything under the sun.
As a first step, hair
loss can be prevented by going slow, taking it easy, relaxing, sleeping
enough, eating healthy food on time, exercising and drinking lots of
fluids or just plain water. Food intake should comprise of , Omega-3
acids, mineral and vitamin rich stuff like salmon oil, Greek yogurt,
pumpkin seeds, walnuts, sardines, egg yolk, blue berries, spinach,
broccoli, parsley and so on.
Besides eating healthy and keeping stress
at bay, it is also wise to take good care of our hair. We are stressed
when we are late for school, college, office or an important
appointment. We are stressed when we run behind schedule, or project due
date.
It is best to change work habits, schedule duties in order of priority and carry out the tasks step by step methodically without setting impossible targets. Eat at fixed timings, finish the work in
time, give time for relaxation, sleep early giving enough shut eye, wake up early and get ready for a new day with fresh thoughts and reasonable goals. Live a life of balance. No stress, No hair fall.
