Former Scientist Gets OK From FDA on New Hair Loss Treatment

Hair loss patients looking for a way to treat the issues they are experiencing with losing hair recently got good word when a laser helmet intended for home use was cleared by the FDA and for sale over-the-counter.

Not only does this mean the solution is safe to use in the home, but its also means those who don't have the time or want to be seen going in and out of a hair restoration clinic to try and solve their issue, no longer have to.

The product, the Theradome Laser Helmet LH80 PRO, priced at $895 per unit, is a wearable laser hair restoration treatment that is based on light beams that focus on the scalp on help stimulate hair regrowth from cells.

In addition to being offered for in home use, the helmet is also compact, cordless and easy-to-use - so its really fool proof for anyone who would like to work on correcting their hair loss issues and doesn't want to have a giant piece of medical equipment set up in visual sight for visitors to their home.

Laser light therapy is used by dermatologists and at hair loss clinics to help stimulate the growth of new, healthy hair. The Theradome Laser Helmet LH80 PRO uses 80 lasers that provide over 560 mW of low laser light therapy. It is recommended for use twice a week in 20 minute sessions.

The product showed promising results when it underwent clinical trials in June of 2012 and was able to produce results of slowed hair loss after 18 treatments to new hair growth after just 52 treatments.

“Temporary, hereditary or long term hair loss is a medical condition that is faced by both men and women. In fact, 40 percent of women have thinning hair.1 Hair transplants, ineffective oral drugs with side effects, and clinical-level hair treatments can cost several thousand dollars and clearly, are not an option for everyone,” said Tamim Hamid Ph.D., founder and CEO of  Theradome who was also a former NASA scientist at the Kennedy Space Center.
