Say What? Pull Your Hair Out to Help it Grow?
Hair loss is a condition that has been studied for many years by scientist looking for a root cause and how to stop it from happening. The biggest breakthrough in a permanent solution can from hair transplant surgery.
Since it was first created as a permanent treatment for hair loss, the surgery has become much more sophisticated and advanced so that people can enjoy a full head of natural looking hair again.
For those not wanting to go through with hair transplant surgery, there are tons of other medications, products and tips for helping to restore hair follicle growth. But one of the most recent claims is one that goes totally against the grain of what we have always been told about hair loss - pulling out hair can actually help it to grow.
What’s interesting about this claim is that the hair needs to be yanked in a very specific way for it to work.
The study and results published in the journal Cell was covered in a recent article on TheHealthSite.
The research, done by scientists at USC on mice, found that by plucking out 200 hair strands in a very specific pattern - this included high density plucking in circular areas - they were able to trigger regeneration of hair strands in the plucked area - and even outside of it.
In a nutshell the science at work here is called ‘quorum sensing’ and works to repair distressed follicles.
This work could be groundbreaking with further analysis and study in the future of hair loss treatments and in particular for those who suffer from alopecia.
