Dr. Berg completed dermatology training at Duke University in 1991. Following this, two further years of training in surgical dermatology were obtained at the University of Toronto and University of British Columbia. This time was spent in both the fields of cosmetic and skin cancer dermatologic surgery.  Dr Berg received advanced training in hair transplantation techniques during his fellowships and has performed hair transplantation since then

Dr. Berg is the former co-director of Dermatologic Surgery at the University of Toronto and was the Director of Dermatologic Surgery at the University of Washington from 1997-2013.  .

Dr Berg has published in journals and lectures on dermatologic surgery techniques at local, national and international medical meetings.  He is the co-author of a well-regarded chapter on hair transplantation in the book, Cosmetic Dermatology
