How Far Would You Go to Mask Hair Loss?

An increasing number of women today are reporting they suffer from hair loss. Whether the loss of locks is due to ill treatment of one’s tresses, or increased stress, medications or pregnancy, differs from woman to woman. But the effect it has on one’s self esteem and the extent most will go to mask embarrassing bald spots is on the rise.

One report by KTRK-TV HOUSTON noted that while hair transplants are usually the best course of action for some women - they can be pricey and in some cases not even an option for hair loss.  Other measures being taken today by women to instead help them cope with a daily need to mask bald spots includes using a scalp concealer in the form of a powder that is similar to eyeshadow and can be brushed over the problem areas to mask the view of a person's scalp.

This also gives the illusion that a problem is not present with the person’s hair and helps keep some of the discomfort and embarrassment associated with hair loss at bay.

Other options outside of hair transplants include laser treatments where lasers are aimed at the problem areas to penetrate into the cell level and assist with stimulation and hair growth. This can be pricey and take a number of sessions to work.

There are also topical creams and medications that say they will assist with helping one to grow their locks back, but as with anything - this is on a case by case basis and many of these treatments have not been approved by the FDA.
