No More Shame! Women Can Go Bald Too
For years women have suffered through unequal rights, pay and a societal norm for beauty that is almost impossible to live up to. Even to this day, there are still women fighting these struggles across the globe. The fact that there is still much work to be done is unquestionable.
However, women across the world are taking a louder stand against societal norms for beauty when it comes to weight, hair texture and more. And their voices are being heard across the media. Almost weekly we see headlines about these topics hitting the airwaves.
The once stereotypical norm of what a beautiful woman is has no place in today’s world. Some women have bigger hips, some are taller than others - and some are even bald.
That’s right bald - as in hair-less. Just like men. It’s something most women have hidden behind for very long because long locks were always associated with beauty.
Illnesses, stress and other issues pop up in life that can cause women to lose their hair. And that is still beautiful. That’s what many women are preaching now.
A recent US News report spotlighted the struggle and one woman’s journey to cope with her hair loss issues in a world where so many think only men go bald.
From noticing thinning hair - to a diagnosis of alopecia, and launching her own non profit to help women who suffer - Thea Chassin’s story is much like that of man women across the globe.
“We want to live our own life and not let [hair loss] keep us from doing things,” Chassin was quoted as saying. “Women stop swimming, women stop playing tennis, women stop going on a bike. Why? Because they haven’t figured out how to do it and be comfortable.”Hairfear - 3-6-2015
