Four Effective Ways to Understand and Prevent Hair Loss

The recently held Cosmetic Surgery & Wellness Expo 2012 at the Miami Convention Center featured hair restoration expert Alan J. Bauman, who explained different ways to prevent hair loss and reduce the chances of hair transplants.

Bauman is a board-certified hair restoration surgeon who is recommended by the American Hair Loss Association.

“Although hair transplant technology has improved significantly in recent years, our first goal is always non-surgical intervention,” said Bauman. “The goal of this talk is to teach prospective patients about the abundance of preventative care treatments, from low level lasers to FDA approved medications and nutritional supplements and how to better understand the hair loss process, including the importance of meeting with a board-certified hair restoration physician.”

Hair restoration procedures have gained significant popularity, offering effective solutions for people suffering from androgenic alopecia. However, Bauman recommends you should focus on minimizing hair loss and recommends four simple tips that could help you avoid hair transplant.

Start preventive treatments with genetic tests: There are several genetic tests like HairDX that can accurately predict the risk of hair loss for both men and women. These tests can help patients get started early on preventative treatments to reduce the chance of irreversible hair loss.

Measure hair damage using trichometer: The amount of hair loss can be measured using HairCheck Trichometer. HairCheck gives a combined cross-sectional measurement of a bundle of hair. The process is scientifically accurate, non-invasive, painless and takes literally less than five minutes.

Know about more hair loss prevention options: There are several other treatment options available that prevent hair loss in both men and women. They include hair vitamin supplements like Viviscal, prescription formulation like Formula 82M and possible future options like Latisse, laser therapy devices like LaserCap and more.

Meet the right physician: To know more about the causes and prevention of hair loss, you must consult a board-certified hair restoration physician who is specialized in hair loss treatments. The specialization is important, according to Bauman, particularly when it comes to prescribing the right combination of therapies, tracking the results of a medical hair re-growth regimen and performing hair transplant surgery.

“A variety of new treatments and technologies have recently become available that make hair loss prevention a real option for patients who are genetically predisposed to hair thinning,” said Bauman.

“Although new minimally-invasive techniques in hair transplantation like Follicular Unit Extraction or FUE, is more comfortable and natural than ever, most patients want to reduce the amount of transplants required or avoid any type of surgical procedure altogether.”

A recent study has confirmed that natural supplements like Viviscal are effective in treating hair loss. Viviscal is an all-natural supplement with ingredients such as AminoMar C Marine Complex that is proprietary to the company, horsetail extract, vitamin C and other antioxidants and proteins that help strengthen hair and support hair growth.
